Any employee is entitled to extended sick leave for a period of one (1) year without forfeiture of rights and/or benefits (i.e., tenure, fringe benefits). Bargaining unit employees are covered by the Memorandum of Understanding. This leave may be a combination of the employee's accumulated sick leave and unpaid leave. This extended leave may be used for the following purposes:
Illness or injury of the employee subject to verification by a licensed physician.
The Board of Education may require a certificate from a licensed physician of its own choosing. In such an event, the cost of the examination will be paid by the Board.
Illness or injury of an employee's immediate family member when the employee's presence is considered necessary subject to verification by a licensed physician.
Immediate family member is defined as spouse, parents, grandparents, children, grandchildren, brothers, sisters, mother-in-law, father-in-law, daughters-in-law, sons-in-law, brothers-in-law, and sisters-in-law.
The employee shall be returned to the position vacated provided the employee returns to service within one (1) year and provided said position has not been affected by a reduction in force.1
