ADMISSION OF FOREIGN STUDENTS

Application for admission to Shelby County Schools will be made through the Student Services Department.

Foreign Exchange Students

The Shelby County Schools System will accept students from other nations who come to the county via well established and recognized exchange programs as approved by the Shelby County Board of Education. The students may be enrolled in any of the high schools served by the Shelby County Schools System. The system retains the right to maintain an equitable distribution of exchange students among the high schools and to limit the number of exchange students if necessary.

Foreign Student Residing With Resident

If a resident of the school system keeps a child in his/her home, and the child is of school age, the child will be admitted to attend school as other residents. The Board may require the person giving shelter to such child to file a statement with the Student Services Department certifying that:

  1. The applicant is a resident of an area served by the Shelby County Schools System.

  2. The child who the applicant is seeking to enroll in school is related by blood or marriage or that the child is living at the applicant's home on a permanent or indefinite basis.
