ATTENDANCE ACCOUNTING



The Shelby County School System will maintain consistency in reporting student attendance.

  1. The following standardized symbols will be used in maintaining student attendance in class records:
    / Tardy
    X Absent
    E Enter (On date student enters school)
    *W Withdrawal (dropped from membership on the first school day the student is not in membership)
    I In-School Suspension
    *S Suspension (out of school)
    *A Alternative School
    *XP Expelled
    *H Homebound
    F School Sponsored Event
    R Re-enter (On date student re-enters or re-enrolls in school after having previously Withdrawn)
    *Draw a line from the date of the initial symbol until the ending symbol when the student returns to class.

  2. All absences and tardiness must be marked in the class record as "Unexcused" or "Excused." Shelby County Guidelines will be used to determine status of excused/unexcused. The following symbols will be used in the teacher record for daily recording of attendance:

  3. Every student who arrives at school after attendance has been reported in the morning or leaves school before the end of the school day, must sign in and/or out on the official sign-in and sign-out sheet maintained in the designated attendance office.

    Students who arrive late or have been absent from class must obtain an admit slip for the teacher in order to assure attendance records are updated. Teachers must require admit slips in these circumstances.
