Standardized Dress Guidelines
Definition: Standardized dress provides a dress code for students to wear a specified color and style of clothing.
The principal of a school wishing to adopt a standardized dress code shall form a committee of teachers, parents, administrators, and students where age appropriate to develop a standardized dress code. The dress code shall include color and style of clothes, rationale for a standardized dress code, and provisions for authorizing exemption from standardized dress. The proposed dress code will be submitted to the superintendent for approval.
Following approval by the superintendent the proposed dress code will be presented to parents along with a method for submitting opinions or suggestions regarding the dress code. The original committee shall review feedback from parents and may make changes to the proposed dress code, if necessary. If the dress code is changed, the superintendent must approve changes and may require that the altered dress code be presented to parents again.
After a minimum publication time of two weeks and before April 15, parents wishing to vote for or against the proposed school dress guidelines may do so by obtaining a ballot. The ballot procedure will be determined by the superintendent.
Each participating school shall develop positive reinforcement measures.
2004-2005 only. Surveys will be taken on a specific date prior to April 15th. Voting shall be completed prior to May 15th.
