Contests shall be permitted in the schools under the following conditions;
The Superintendent or Superintendent's designee shall approve the contest.
The contest shall be optional with the school and the students.
No undue pressure will be exerted on a student to participate nor will extra credit towards grades be allowed for participation in any contest.
All contests and activities to be publicized in the Shelby County Schools shall be approved annually by the Superintendent or Superintendent's designee.
Organizations wishing to submit requests for approval of any activity or contest shall do so in writing. The requests must include one set of rules, regulations, and a listing of awards, if any. Personal contact and telephone calls will not be sufficient.
All correspondence shall be addressed to the Department of Instruction, Shelby County Board of Education, 160 S. Hollywood, Memphis, Tennessee 38112.
Approval of contests and activities will be forwarded to the principal for dissemination as appropriate.
Any student who wishes to participate in a contest shall contact the sponsoring agency directly. Posters, essays, and projects shall be submitted directly to the sponsor. Sponsoring organizations shall not contact teachers or principals directly or indirectly at home, school or elsewhere.
