Rezoning Proposals

With
the construction of a new middle school, near the intersection
of North Germantown Road and Memphis Arlington Roads,
rezoning is proposed for the following middle schools:

Middle
Arlington
Middle |
Shadowlawn
Middle |
The
middle school boundary proposed changes accomplish the
following:
- Creates
a new school attendance boundary
- Relieves
overcrowding at Arlington Middle, Shadowlawn Middle,
Appling MD
- Creates
student demographic enrollments for the new school
in keeping with the order of the federal district court

SCS schools are affected in this proposal; 603 students
will be rezoned to the new middle school.
Details of the
proposal
The
new middle school being constructed on the campus of
Bon Lin Elementary school, under this proposal, will
be fed from Bon Lin Elementary enrollment, a portion
of Rivercrest Elementary enrollment, and a portion of
Lakeland Elementary enrollment. The school will take
in students currently enrolled at Shadowlawn Middle,
Arlington Middle and Appling Middle schools. It is recommended
that the school open August 2008 serving grades 6-8 and
the proposed rezoning enrollment will equate to approximately
625 students. 603 students in current grades 5, 6, and
7 are recommended for rezoning to the new middle school.
The recommended zone will yield a racial demographic
of approximately 27% African American and 67% White.
