Barret's Chapel School Administration
I am extremely proud and very excited as I begin my eighth year at Barret's Chapel School.
I graduated from Harding University with a B.A. in Secondary English Education. After teaching for four years at Southaven High School in DeSoto County, I spent the next ten years raising my two children.
I returned to education at Millington Middle School and remained there for fifteen years as a middle school reading and English teacher. During that time, I earned a Master’s Degree in Administration and Supervision and, in 2003, I became the Assistant Principal at Highland Oaks Elementary School. After serving there for five years, I was selected as the Principal at Barret’s Chapel School in 2008.
It is an honor to serve as Assistant Principal at Barret’s Chapel School. I count everyday as a blessing! I absolutely adore children! My goal is to serve with empathy and integrity. Students should have compassion with others, and have honor in all endeavors while achieving curriculum expectations.
I have a Master’s Degree in Education and an Education Specialist Degree in Administration and Supervision from Union University. In my tenure, I taught for nine years at White Station Middle School. In addition, I served as an Instructional Coach and Assistant Principal (Shelby Oaks Elementary) for Shelby County Schools.
I received my bachelor's degree from University of Memphis in Education. After 8 years of teaching at Mt. Pisgah Middle School, I decided to advance my career by pursuing my graduate degree in Gifted Education from CBU. A few years after that, I decided to purse a graduate degree in English as a Second Language (ESL) at the University of Memphis. I taught ESL for Shelby County Schools for 3 years traveling from school to school assisting students with learning the English language. Next, I decided to take a job with Shelby County Schools’ Talent Management Department to help coach and offer professional development for teachers and staff throughout the county. This job lead me straight to my current position at Barret’s, which I thank God for everyday!
I have a wonderful husband, Coach John Perkins, whom is also an SCS educator at Bolton High School. We have an amazing son, John (JD) Perkins IV, who I am proud to say will be starting Kindergarten at Barret’s this year. My husband and I met teaching middle school at Mt. Pisgah. We have coached girls’ basketball together for over 10 years. Together, we currently coach the Bolton High School Lady Wildcats! I love being able to teach and coach student athletes along side my husband and our young son.
I am a people person and love working with each and every Barret’s Wildcat! I feel so very blessed to be at The Best Kept Secret in Shelby County!
I am delighted to be the PLC Coach and the title 1 facilitator for Barret’s Chapel. In this role I support the work of the school administration to ensure a focus on commitment to student learning through coaching, consulting and collaborating with teachers and students. Title 1 is a federal aid program coordinated through the Department of Education that provides funds to schools. As part of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act, Title 1 authorizes the dispersion of federal grants from the state to our school. As Barret’s Title 1 Facilitator I make sure these funds are used appropriately to help our students achieve academic success.
I received my bachelor’s degree from Christian Brothers University and I received my Masters from Nova Southeastern University. I was a classroom teacher for fifteen years prior to becoming the PLC coach. I have experience in 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th grade. During this time, I fulfilled several leadership positions, including serving as a formative assessment trainer, a learning coach, a grade chair, and member of the instructional leadership team.
I have a wonderful husband and two daughters. Both of my daughters attend Barret’s Chapel and it is a joy to bring them to work with me each day. I live in the Barret’s Chapel community and I am honored to serve you everyday by doing what I love.
