"Believing, Caring, Succeeding" Barret's Chapel Elementary School embarked upon the task of defining its beliefs and mission by engaging in a comprehensive, consensus-building process that involved administrators, teachers, support staff, parents, students, and members of the community. Committees were formed to review the school's data, particularly the students' academic data, the mission statement from Shelby County Schools, and the opinions of students, teachers, parents and community members about the quality of our school compared to the national sample, based on the NSSE's Opinion Inventories. Examination of this data helped us to identify key issues pertinent to the needs of the students and community we serve in our school. Future trends in teaching and learning and the changing expectations of today's workplace were taken into account as we developed our beliefs and defined our mission. Initial drafts of the belief and mission statement were distributed to all of the staff and a representative sample of students, parents, and community members for review and comment. Feedback was collected by the planning team and modifications were made based on the suggestions we received. In the following context we have included the statement of our beliefs and mission.
