Withdrawal of Students |
If a student is going to move out of our school district, please call or come by the school a few days prior to the withdrawal date. This will give us ample time to complete the necessary paperwork. |
Illness at School |
You will be called if your child becomes ill at school. It is imperative for us to have every child's emergency information on file so that we may contact you when necessary. Please keep the information and phone number updated in the office and with the teacher. Students will be released only to parents, guardians or others designated on his registration forms/health cards. |
Chronic Illnesses |
The office and the teacher need to know of chronic illnesses such as asthma, diabetes, allergies, etc. We need definite written instructions on file should an emergency arise. |
Medications |
If your child is to be given medication at school, a medical form must be filled out and signed by the parent before medication can be administered. All medication must be brought to the office by the parent. The medication must be in the original container prepared by a pharmacist. |
Bus Riders |
Students must ride the bus assigned to their address. Students will not be permitted to ride on any other bus. Each student will be picked up and dropped off at their assigned stop. Students receive a list of the bus rules during the first week of school. Violations of the rules may result in the denial of bus privileges. |
Car Riders |
If your child is a car rider, please write the name and grade level of your child on a piece of notebook-sized paper ( or use the one supplied by the school) and place the paper on the dashboard of your car so that we can easily see the name and grade. We will dismiss car riders from the gym. |
Visits and Volunteers |
Parents are encouraged to visit the school and actively participate in the education of your child. FOR THE PROTECTION OF THE STUDENTS, ALL VISITORS MUST SIGN IN AT THE VISITOR SIGN-IN DESK IN THE LOBBY, STATE THE NATURE OF THEIR VISIT, AND RECEIVE A PASS. These visits are for assisting with classroom crafts, tutoring, reading stories, etc. You must arrange this with the teachers. Do not go directly to the classroom to deliver a forgotten item such as a lunch, homework, money, etc. These items should be brought to the office where the child can pick it up. In the afternoon, parents are not to wait for their children outside the classrooms. |
Homework |
Regularly assigned homework is helpful in assisting students to achieve satisfactory progress and develop good study habits. Assignments are an extention of classroom work to provide drill and practice. Please help your child by providing the time, place, cooperation and encouragement needed to complete the assignments. |

Progress Reports and Honor Roll |
Shelby County provides report cards every nine weeks. You will receive a report card in an envelope. In grades 1-4, you keep the report card, but must sign and return the envelope. In addition to report cards, interim reports at the midpoint of each nine weeks are sent if students are performing below grade level. These forms must be signed and returned to the teacher. Parent Conferences are one of the best methods of discussing student progress. To achieve "Principal's Honor Roll", a student must maintain an "A" average (94 or above) and no less than "S" in conduct. To achieve "Scholastic Honor Roll" the student must maintain an A and B (no more than two B's) in all subjects and no less than "S" in conduct. |
Conferences |
When a conference is needed, please call the office at 756-2316 or send a note to the teacher to make arrangements. Teachers cannot have a conference during instructional time. The teacher's day is planned in advance. Please do not expect a teacher to be available to talk with you each morning or each afternoon. |
Personal Property |
Coats, book bags, lunch boxes and other articles of value should be labeled with your child's name. It is best not to bring anything of value, including large amounts of money, to school. The school is not responsible for loss or damage of personal property. |
Lost & Found |
A "Lost & Found" box is located in the cafeteria. Lost articles may be claimed by proper identification. It is a good idea to clearly mark items with the owner's name so they can be returned without delay. This also discourages unauthorized borrowing. |
Inclement Weather |
Parents and students should have a plan in case of dismissal due to inclement weather. In order to be aware of parents' intentions before winter, Chimneyrock will provide a form for parents to indicate how their children will get home. The school is not authorized to dismiss school early unless so directed by the Shelby County School System. |
