Chimneyrock is very proud of its
outdoor areas. Our Environmental Studies Committee works closely with
students, parents, and teachers to create beautiful outdoor learning
areas. The Lane Woodland Gardens Classroom welcomes visitors into
the school grounds. With its winding pathway, beautiful trees, and
plants, the outdoor classroom is a great learning tool to teach about
the environment and nature. The Daniel A. Edmiston Bird Sanctuary
is located between the kindergarten and third grade wings of the school
building. It houses many different types of birds and other animals.
The Patricia R. Ashcraft Woodland Trails is located beside the small
circle parking lot and gives the kindergarten students their own special
place to learn about the great outdoors. It includes a newly dedicated
Paw-Paw Patch and Mitchell Meadows. The Hamp Dobbins Memorial Garden
was developed in an unused area between the building and the portables.
It has beautiful gardens that attract butterflies and hummingbirds.
The Monet Garden is outside of the art room, and includes a color
wheel made of flowers. The agricultural area was named after our third
principal and is called Roper's Farm Yard. The children grow fruits
and vegetables. Our newest additions to the Outdoor Classroom Sites
include the addition of the Hamp Dobbins Memorial Garden, the Monet
Sensory Art Garden located outside our art classrooms, and an Agricultural
Area outside the Kindergarten hallway.
