Transportation Procedures of Dexter Elementary
The faculty and staff of Dexter Elementary are deeply committed to providing a safe environment for your children. This is one of our highest priorities. It is our sincere desire to make the arrival and dismissal procedures safe, quick, and efficient for all.
Dexter Elementary School’s transportation plan was developed with the help of Shelby County School Officials and the Local Police Department. Please review this procedure carefully.
We would request that no student be checked out after 3:00pm.

Buses
Only Shelby County School buses will be allowed in the back loop lot between the hours of 8:30-9:00 a.m. and between the hours of 3:15-4:10 p.m. Visitors arriving at school before 9:00 a.m. will be asked to park in the designated parking areas in the front of the school, and enter the school through the front entrance.

Special Education
Special Education car riders will use the designated drop off / pickup area in the front parking lot located by the office. Cars must have the required identification tag to be allowed on campus. (ID provided by school).

Car Riders
Car riders will be dropped off in the circle drive located by the gym.

Walkers / Bike Riders
Please refer to the handbook for designated walking and bicycle paths.
Additional Information:
All teachers, staff, PTA board members, and SPED parents must have required identification in order to park in the faculty parking area (ID provided by school).

Y-Care Students
y-Care parents must drop students off before 8:30 a.m. After 8:30 a.m., Y-Care students must be dropped off in the car rider lane.
