Motivating the Reluctant Reader

 1. Spend time reading to your child...bedtime is perfect!

2. Ask prediction questions to get your child interested.

3. Have your child dictate a story to you.

4. Read the story together.

5. Take turns reading a story.

6. For younger or poor readers, use illustrated books.

7. Keep a list of difficult words and practice reading them.

8. Spend some time at the public library once a month.

9. Keep a dictionary at home.

10. Memorize some poetry.

11. Buy bookmarks as favors.

12. Get the child a joke book.
