"Excellence In Action" has emanated from E.E. Jeter Elementary School since it was erected in 1922. Named by Mr. Emmett Early Jeter, it was officially dedicated the following year by Senator E. McKellar. One of the oldest schools in Shelby County, it is nestled in the heart of Shelby Forest.
The school originally opened for students in grades one through eleven, but was restructured in the late 1920's for grades one through eight and remained unchanged until 1972, when kindergarten was added. To meet the continued population growth of the community, the school plant was expanded in 1951 to include more classrooms and a playground. In 1962 a gymnasium was built. Eight years later, the original building was replaced by a new one on the same site. Today more than ever, because of the influx of new families into the community, every space in the building is being utilized.
E.E. Jeter currently serves approximately 240 students in grades Kindergarten through fifth grade. Most of the students who graduate from Jeter attend Woodstock Middle School and Millington Central High School.
