History of Northaven Elementary
Northaven
Elementary is a small school nestled in a wooded area of Northwest
Shelby County. Our school opened with grades K-3 for the
1979-80 school year under the guidance of our first principal, Mrs.
Bonita Grumme. Mr. Raymond Dunavant became our principal in 1983 when
we added fourth grade to our school. In 1995 we added fifth grade
classes enabling our older students to remain at their neighborhood
school. During
1999-2000 the building was renovated and expanded to include extra
classrooms, a computer lab, a science lab, a music room, an art room
with a kiln, and a gymnasium.
Mrs. Diane Johnson became our third principal in the fall of 2000 when the K - 5 student populations of Woodstock combined with Northaven to create an elementary school with almost 700 students and 35 classroom teachers and 15 specialty and special education teachers. In 2003 Ms. Trudi Dunnings became the fourth principal of Northaven Elementary School.
In the fall of 2005, Mr. Louis Padgett took over the leadership of Northaven Elementary School, after serving Shelby County Schools as a curriculum coordinator and an assistant principal.
