Third grade is an exciting and challenging year as we work on multiplication and division facts, cursive handwriting, "power" graph writing, internet homework, research, computer skills, and much, much more! To meet the many different learning styles of our students we have created and implemented the following activities: Special Thematic Days such as Turkey Day Reindeer Day Owl Day Armadillo Day.
Our Pioneer Unit includes making butter, maple syrup candy, soap, and sewing quilted pillows. We wrap up our unit with a pioneer tasting fair and dress up day. Our Continental Unit enhances research skills by using the internet, encyclopedias, atlases, and guest speakers as we study the cultural and physical features of each continent. At the end of our 4 month study we have a continental dress and share day. Finally, our team of eight teachers are proud of the technology program we have developed to enhance our students' technology skills. Twice a month we have two 3rd grade teachers teaching specific computer skills to our 198 third grade students while we rotate the nine classes in and out of Oak's High Tech Computer Lab. Then the computer skills are reinforced in the regular classroom.
