ART I FV111 Grades 9, 10, 11, 12
Art is an elective course designed to help students understand the visual world, to develop skills in drawing, color fundamentals and design principles. Students are required to purchase their art supplies. The aproximate cost is $50 for the year. A $10 class fee is required.
PREREQUISITES - None Credit 1

ART II FV211 Grades 10, 11, 12
Art II is a course providing development of skills with emphasis on strong drawing skills. Areas explored include drawing, painting, sculpture, and art history. Requirements include the purchase of individual student supplies, approximately $50 for the year, and a $15 class fee.
PREREQUISITES - At least 90 avg. in Art I Credit 1
Teacher recommendation required.

ART III (Advanced Art) FV311 Grades 11, 12
Art III is an advanced level course with emphasis on techniques, composition and color in drawing and painting. The development of portfolios for college admission begins at this level. Requirements include the purchase of individual student supplies, approximate cost $50, and a $20 class fee. Students have at least a 94 average in Art II and exhibit strong realistic drawing skills .
PREREQUISITES - Art I; Art II; Credit 1
Teacher recommendation required.

ART IV FV431 Grade 12
Art IV is a course with emphasis on individualized assignments which reinforce the strengths of each student. Participants should be strong in composition and realistic drawing skills and highly motivated to perform in a studio type setting. Students will be working toward the preparation of a portfolio for college. A class fee of $30 is required. It is recommended that students have at least a 94 average in Art III.
PREREQUISITES - Art I, II, III; Credit 1
Teacher recommendation required.

AP ART FV419 Grade 12
Advanced Placement Studio Art is a specific course of study prepared by The College Board. It parallels specialized drawing curriculums and programs in college and university art departments and in art schools. Two major areas of drawing are emphasized: perceptual and conceptual. Students will be required to use a variety of media in the course and will be required to complete an extensive student drawing portfolio. The portfolio is evaluated for advanced placement credit. The course is designed for the student who is seriously interested in the practice of art. A final qualifying examination is required and the fee of $75 must be paid by all students enrolled in this course at the beginning of the year. A class materials fee of $30 is also required.
PREREQUISITES - Art I; Teacher recommendation required. Credit 1

This course functions as a part of the marching band program. Instruction is available in flag, saber and rifle technique. The students learn marching skills and basic rhythmic theory. This is a second semester class and those enrolling should also sign-up for the corresponding marching band number (for which a marching band 1/2 credit will be awarded during the first semester).

COLOR GUARD BAND FB112 - 9TH    FB132 - 11TH Grades 9, 10, 11, 12

This course functions as a part of the marching band 1st semester. The students learn marching skills, basic rhythm patterns and beginning music theory. Students should continue in Color Guard 2nd semester to receive a full Fine Arts credit.
PREREQUISITES - Teacher recommendation required. Credit 1/2

BATTERY PERCUSSION FB251 - 9TH

This course functions as part of both the marching and concert band programs. Percussionists will focus primarily on the playing of snare drum, toms, bass drum or cymbals. Required performances are a large part of the grading criteria for this class.

MALLET PERCUSSION FB411 - 9TH

This course functions as part of both the marching and concert band programs. Percussionists will focus primarily on the playing of xylophone, marimba, vibraphone, bells and timpani. Required performances are a large part of the grading criteria for this class.

MARCHING BAND FB191 - 9TH

Marching Band, also referred to as Concert Band, is a performance class dealing with marching as well as concert music, and includes theory and music appreciation. The group performs at football games, parades and various concert performances throughout the year. Marching Band and Concert Band competitions are included in the curriculum as well as solo and ensemble participation. Members of regional and all-state groups are selected from this group. After-school practices for all phases of the program are decided according to need.
PREREQUISITES -Teacher recommendation required.Credit 1

THEORY AND HARMONY FM321 Grades 11, 12
Theory and Harmony will provide for a more advanced study of the rudiments and composition of music than can be offered by either band or choral music classes. Students will learn traditional rules of harmonization. They will also study various music forms and engage in the analysis of contrasting musical styles. This class is offered to those students who have completed two (2) years of high school music (band or chorus).
PREREQUISITES - 2 credits of Vocal or Instrumental Music Credit 1

GENERAL MUSIC FM172 Grades 9, 10, 11, 12
General Music is structured to provide experiences for all students in the areas of creating, understanding, and listening to music. Areas of focus are producing and experiencing music, musical styles, and music in contemporary life. Students will develop skills in performing, organizing, and describing music.
PREREQUISITES - None Credit 1

This course is designed for students with varying degrees of musical experience. Emphasis will be given to vocal production and basic fundamentals. Occasional public performances will be required.

This course is designed for students with varying degrees of musical experience. Emphasis will be given to vocal production and basic fundamentals. Occasional public performances will be required.

This course is a continuation of Beginning Chorus with emphasis on expanding the range of the voice and increasing sight reading skills. Occasional public performances will be required.

This course is a continuation of Intermediate Chorus with emphasis on the importance of vocal health and the development of advanced vocal techniques. Occasional public performances will be required.

This course is a continuation of Chorale with emphasis on refining vocal performance technique appropriate to the stylistic interpretation of music from the Renaissance to the present. Occasional public performances will be required.

THEATRE ARTS:COMMUNICATION ARTS I FT111 -9TH & 10TH

This course introduces the students to basic communication techniques, discussion, debate, semantics, oral interpretation, and parliamentary procedure during the first semester. In the second semester the student is introduced to the basics of oral interpretation and acting. Both formal and casual speech making assignments are part of the course of study.

THEATRE ARTS: INTRODUCTION TO ACTING FT241 Grades 10, 11, 12
This course is designed for the performance oriented student. The student will examine practical and theoretical approaches to performance, including improvisational acting, acting styles, acting methodology, and acting scenes. As part of the course of study, students are required to critique live theatre performances in the Memphis and Germantown areas.
PREREQUISITES - Communication Arts I Credit 1

THEATRE ARTS: INTRODUCTION TO THEATRE FT121 Grades, 10, 11, 12
This course offers the student a broad overview of the theatre world, theatre production, history, evaluation, and technical theatre. Students are required to critique live theatrical productions in the Memphis and Germantown areas.
PREREQUISITES - Communication Arts I Credit 1

THEATRE ARTS: PLAY PRODUCTION WORKSHOP FT311 Grades 11, 12
Play Production Workshop provides a workshop setting for students who desire to learn advanced techniques and gain practical experience in all phases of theatre and forensic activities. This course is strictly performance-oriented and requires after-class hours. An individual course of study is prepared for each student.
PREREQUISITES - Communication Arts I; Intro. to Theatre or Credit 1
Intro. to Acting and teacher recommendation required.

THEATRE ARTS:ADVANCED ACTING FT331 Grades 11, 12
This course is designed to further develop the student's knowledge of the craft of acting, including the study of naturalism and method acting. Participation in competitions, auditions and performances will be required.
PREREQUISITES - Intro. to Acting and teacher recommendation required. Credit 1

THEATRE ARTS: ADVANCED PLAY PRODUCTION WORKSHOP FT411 Grades 11, 12
This advanced course is designed to further develop the knowledge and skills acquired in previous theatre classes. This class will not only focus on performance, but also technical and directorial aspects of productions. The students will have responsibilities for each school production. Considerable investment of time outside of class is required of all students.
PREREQUISITES - Play Production Workshop and/or Advanced Acting and teacher recommendation

THEATRE ARTS: INTRODUCTION TO FILM AND VIDEO PRODUCTION FT141 Grades 11, 12
This year-long course is designed to provide the student with a basic knowledge of film and broadcasting. Included in the course will be a survey of film history, basic electronics and film theory, and working sessions devoted to the skills necessary for video and film production: camera techniques, editing, sound, lighting, as well as writing, interviewing and announcing for television. Hours outside of class will be required for completion of special video projects.
PREREQUISITES - Theatre Arts 1 or a teacher recommendation

THEATRE ARTS: ADVANCED FILM AND VIDEO PRODUCTION FT321 Grade 12
This course is designed for students who have an intense interest in film and broadcasting. This class offers a laboratory setting that allows students to work on and produce films and television new pieces outside of school. In addition, the class will focus on the production of the Senior Video. The class requires many after-school hours and is performance oriented.
