CHILD DEVELOPMENT HE122 Grades
10,11,12
Child Development is the study of how children grow
physically, mentally emotionally and socially. Opportunity
for an in-depth study is provided through hands-on
activities and "parenting simulation." The student will care
for a computerized doll called "Baby Think It Over." This
course provides practical child care skills which may
benefit them now and in the future.

FAMILY AND CONSUMER SCIENCE HE151
Grades 9,10
This course is a comprehensive study of home economics
(personal development, textiles and clothing, housing and
interiors, nutrition and foods, child development, and
management of resources). Laboratory experiences include the
construction of a simple garment and basic cooking lessons.
This is the only year long class in home economics.
PREREQUISITES - None Credit 1
INTERPERSONAL COMMUNICATIONS HE212
Grades 10,11,12
This is an excellent course for young men and women who want
to learn more about themselves and others. The course
emphasizes personality development, communication skills,
relationships with others, and decision-making relating to
everyday life. The course also focuses on stress management
and conflict resolutions. The students will participate in
role-playing and group discussion.

HOUSING AND INTERIORS HE282
Grades 10,11,12
This course provides information for students who are
seeking jobs in the area of interior design or who wish to
increase their knowledge about decorating. Students will
gain proficiency in the use of design elements and
principles, planning interiors, and will gain knowledge
regarding furniture design, architectural styles and
construction of homes. Students will submit a portfolio of
decorating ideas for evaluation.

NUTRITION AND FOODS I HE232
Grades 10,11,12
This course emphasizes basic nutrition and food preparation
skills. Students have hands on experience in the kitchen
preparing quick and yeast breads, vegetables, fruits,
poultry, and meat menu items. Nutrition and lowfat cooking
for better health are an important part of the classroom
curriculum
PREREQUISITES - None Credit 1/2
NUTRITION AND FOODS II HE332
Grades 10, 11,12
Basic cake decorating, preparation of cookies, cakes,
frostings, pies, pastry, stocks, soups and sauces,
international foods, and regional cooking are some food
items that students prepare in the kitchen. Careers and how
to get and keep a job are surveyed.
PREREQUISITES - Nutrition and Foods I Credit 1/2
TEXTILES AND CLOTHING HE272
Grades 10,11,12
This course provides students with information regarding
elements and principles of design as related to clothing and
how to make wise purchases. Students will gain knowledge of
fabric selection and do color analysis. Laboratory
experiences include the construction of two garments.
