Athletics
Mt. Pisgah sponsors two basketball teams and a cheerleading squad that compete with other middle schools in the Shelby County System. Practices are scheduled before or after school. Students who participate in these groups have indicated a desire to contribute time and energy for the good of themselves, the team, and their school. We expect our athletes to be good representatives of Mt. Pisgah wherever they go. All students are encouraged to attend the games and support our teams. Although not sponsored by Shelby County Schools, many students participate in sports programs sponsored by Shelby Youth Sports or other Cordova programs. The Cordova Wolves of the Shelby County Competitive Football League is one of these youth organizations. These programs include football and spring basketball. Mt. Pisgah students also participate in both competitive and recreational baseball, swimming and volleyball programs.
Cheerleading
In March, tryouts are held for the Mt. Pisgah cheerleading team. Twenty-five girls will be chosen to be on the Mt. Pisgah squad. These girls must have a back handspring and a grade point average of at least 2.0. During the summer, the cheerleaders go to a UCA camp. There they learn teamwork, cheers, poms, and various building skills. The squad competes in a home pom routine, cheer, and a sideline competition. After camp there are four major competitions. These competitions are the Mid-South Fair, State, Regional, and Nationals. Preparing for these competitions consists of practicing an average of fifteen hours per week. Mt. Pisgah was the 1995, 2001, 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2006 National Champions. In 1996, 1997, 1998, and 2000 our cheerleaders placed in the top four nationally. The cheerleaders also cheer for both the boys' and girls' basketball teams during the year. The Mt. Pisgah Cheerleaders' cumulative grade point average during the year has remained a 3.5 or above.

Daily Exercise Program
Iron Man and Iron Woman
The Iron Man Program is a fitness program that is used in the P. E. classes. It serves to embrace and develop the fitness level of Mt. Pisgah's boy and girls. Cardiovascular strength is tested in the mile, the half mile, and the quarter mile. Abdominal strength is tested in the one minute timed sit-up test. Upper arm strength is tested using push-ups. After practicing and building strength throughout the first six weeks period, scores are finally taken during the second six weeks for each event. Each year the Iron Man and Iron Woman will be featured in the school yearbook.
