H. E. R. O.

Audra Bryant & Gwen Simpson

H. E. R. O. stands for "He Encourages the Renewal of Others" and is a Bible study for any interested students.  Students will spend time discussing life issues and what the Bible says about them.  It is a time for young people to come together and encourage each other using the Bible as a guide.  This club is student led and meets every third Thursday in room 104.

 

AMBASSADORS CLUB

Rachel Reich & Brooke Kemp

One boy and one girl from each homeroom will be chosen to serve as student leaders among their peers. Ambassadors are responsible for helping new students become adjusted to their new environment. They also help conduct school tours and participate in spring orientation.     For information only.

 

  ART CLUB

Pam Hudson & Amy Saterfield

The Art Club will meet the first and third Tuesday of each month from 3:15 to 4:15pm, and is open to all grades. Students will work on a variety of projects throughout the year, including poster contests. In order to be considered for membership, it is necessary to submit an original drawing (not traced) to one of the sponsors. Cartoon and action firgures should be avoided. Requirements include an interest in art, satisfactory conduct, and parent permission.

HISTORY DAY

Bill Finley

This activity, sponsored by the University of Memphis, is an educational program that allows students to study and learn about historical issues, ideas, people and events. Students compete in a contest and this process helps them to develop critical thinking and problem solving skills. This year's theme is "Rights and Responsibilities in History". SFMS students will participate in the junior division in one of seven categories. Meeting times to be announced.

ELT (Educational Leaders of Tomorrow)

ELT is a school-based program that is designed to promote future educators and create an awareness of the meaningful roles assumed by educators. Meeting times to be announced.

 

CHESS CLUB
Justin Wilson

The Chess Club is an after school organization that meets weekly and allows students to interact in a unique extracurricular atmosphere. Students will spend the majority of their time in fun competition with their peers. Skill levels will be matched accordingly for advanced players, as well as those who only play recreationally. Members have the option of entering tournaments and competition within the city of Memphis, as well as outside of Memphis. The CHS Chess Club, along with their coach, will offer sessions on strategies and tactics on a weekly basis. This would be an opportunity that you would not want to miss out on. This club is open to any student at SFMS who is a chess player or even interested in learning how to play. The club will meet on Tuesdays and is limited to 20-30 members.

 

SPELLING BEE

Pam Shields, Shannon Dorris, & Rebecca Secrist

Calling all spellers! Do you do well in spelling? Are you competitive? Then grab your dictionaries and thesauruses and start preparing for the seventh annual SFMS Spelling Bee. The Spelling Bee will be held in November. The winner will represent SFMS at the citywide contest sponsored by the Commercial Appeal. For info only.

 

INTERNATIONAL WEEK/GEOGRAPHY BEE

Robert Bolding, Carol Brawner, Jouli Jara, & Bill Finley

Students will have an opportunity to help plan and implement our recognition of International Week. The Geography Bee will be held in December. The Bee will test students' knowledge, skills, and understanding of geographic concepts. Participation will be open to any SFMS student.


JUNIOR BETA CLUB

Barbara Jenkins, Linda Corrigan, & Debbie Caughlin

The SFMS Chapter of the National Junior Beta Club promotes scholarship, leadership, and good citizenship. The membership is made up of 7th and 8th grade students who, because of their worthy character, creditable achievement, and commendable attitude, and how well they meet the qualifications of membership as set forth in the Constitution and By-Laws. These qualifications include at least a 95 grade average, excellent conduct grades, and involvement in community service. The meetings are held the second Friday of each month at 7:15am in the cafeteria. Membership is by invitation only.

 

FELLOWSHIP OF CHRISTIAN ATHLETES

FCA, a student-run association, will meet twice each month before school. Students must maintain satisfactory conduct in all classes. Specific dates and times will be announced, as guest speakers become available.

 

JUNIOR CIVITAN CLUB

Do you want to make a difference in our community? Our club is sponsored by the Collierville Civitan organization. This nationally recognized organization is committed to service, knowledge, and fellowship. We will meet on the 1st Tuesday of each month from 3:15 to 4:45pm. Special dates and times may be added for fundraisers and community projects. Make a difference and join Jr. Civitan.

 

OUTDOOR LEARNING CLUB
Monroe Jones 

The outdoor learning club is designed to give students an opportunity to enhance their knowledge of nature by utilizing our school's outdoor classroom. The club is open to 15-20 students and will meet either Tuesday or Thursday from 3:15 to 4:30 pm. The students will be involved in the planning and development stages of the outdoor lab.

 

WELLNESS WORKS

Marjon Bishop, Amy Garcia, Anita Swindle, & Connie Whittaker

Do you want to learn how to be healthy while having fun? Then this is the club for you. In this club you will have the opportunity to do things like make and eat healthy snacks, learn your target heart rate, and find interesting and fun ways to exercise. There will be no strenuous exercise involved. However, a parent permission slip will be required. We will meet the last Monday of every month.

 

STUDENT COUNCIL

Pam McLain, Marjon Bishop, Gaynell Perry, Mark Beadle, & Kym Lester

Officers are elected by vote of the sixth and seventh grade students during the spring before the tenure of their term. They must have two teacher recommendations and present a copy of the most current report card to the Student Council sponsor. Homeroom representatives are elected by each homeroom during the month of September during the school year of their term. Each officer and representative must maintain at least a B average in all class work (with no more than two C's per reporting period), and must receive nothing less than an S in conduct. Student Council provides its members an opportunity to develop leadership skills and to serve the school community through activities and service projects.  

S.W.A.T TEAM

Students Working and Assisting Teachers with Technology. The S.W.A.T. team consists of our computer whiz kids. Trained to assist teachers with the proper set up, repair, and functioning of their classroom computers and the mobile computer labs, the tech team keeps our school's technology up and working. Teacher recommendation, satisfactory grades and conduct, and computer experience are required. Membership is by invitation only.
