If you have a desire to become more involved and make a difference in your child's
education, you are welcome. It is time to fill open PTSA offices and positions
for the school year 2009-10. Because current board members are still active,
this
can be an easy transitional period for new officers to come aboard. Please contact
Hank Winkler at (901)291-6053 or Polly Edwards at (901)386-4685. Below are brief
descriptions of positions:
President - Facilitate general and Board meetings; follow
accepted order of business and PTSA bylaws.
Vice President - Act as aide to the President.
Secretary - Attend all Executive Board and General Membership
meetings, notify members of meetings, take notes at all meetings, submit
copy of minutes
to the Board, etc.
Treasurer - Prepare an annual budget, maintain financial accounts,
present written financial statements at every meeting.
Membership Chairperson -Implement registration and recruitment
strategies to increase membership. Maintain a current listing of all
PTSA members; submit
membership forms and fees in a timely manner.
Program Chairperson - Plan PTSA programs and present ideas to
board at summer planning meeting.
Honor Roll Chairperson - Plan and implement programs to recognize
those students who meet the guidelines for Honor Roll at Shadowlawn
Middle.
Volunteer Coordinator - Communicate and meet with the Principal
(as needed) to determine areas where volunteers are needed. Assign
and work with volunteer committee.
Ways and Means Chairperson - Solicit PTSA fundraising ideas for the
year and present
to board at summer planning meeting. This individual should present
a fall and spring fundraising idea.
Spirit Chairperson - Help with fundraising school items, which
generate school pride (t-shirts, other school paraphernalia).
Hospitality Chair - To work with Programs in meeting the needs
of hosts and hostess as needed.
Publicity Chair - Responsible for advertising in the community
and basic community relations. Duties include developing and distribution
of newsletters.
