by line - This is also known as the "by" line. This tells who wrote the article and is found at the top of the article, just below the title.
caption - Captions are the pieces of information which are found under pics or photos. These need to tell the reader what is going on in an interesting manner. If the picture is of a boy eating an apple, the caption should NOT read "A boy hungrily eats an apple." Instead, it would be more interesting to say, "At the San Diego Zoo, the boys watches squawking birds dive-bomb for his apple." All captions should be in the same style and size of font.
columns - Newspapers, journals and magazines are printed in two or more columns down that paper. Once a number of column count is decided upon, say three columns for page, it is important to remain consistent throughout the entire document.
font - This is also known as type. In a newspaper, it is important to keep the same size and style of type constant. This looks much more professional and is easier on the reader.
journalistic questions - An article should answer the following: who, what, when, where, why and how.
newspaper title line - This includes the name of the newspaper, where published, the date, volume number and issue. The font should reflect the theme of the newspaper. Some clip art might be included.
pics - A short word for picture or photograph.
