This WebQuest was developed as part of the Shelby County Summer Technology Training program. This was an introductory course in WebQuest offered to high school teachers during the summer of 1999.
This WebQuest was designed to show the significance of climate as a major influence on the physical and human geography of the world.
This introductory unit is geared to high school World Geography classes and includes tasks that will require research, graphing, organizational, cooperative learning and composition skills. Through the use of these skills, students will gain an understanding of the impact of climate on society.
This unit meets the State of Tennessee Social Studies standards. It addresses the relationship between people and their environment.
This unit is designed to be completed in a one week time frame. It crosses curriculum disciplinary lines, including social studies, math, English, science, and art.
The following items should be all that is necessary to complete this unit.
Entry Level Skills and Knowledge
The student would need a working knowledge of basic graphing techniques and the ability to surf the Internet successfully.
The teacher would need knowledge in surfing the Internet.
The performance of the student will be measured by evaluating the completed portfolio, newspaper, climate comparison sheet and ability to perform well in a group situation. See rubric.
By completing this unit, it is hoped the student will have more understanding of the importance of climate on human life and the adaptations that are necessary to survive in a given climate zone.
