Evaluation
- Follow the THSSDL guidelines in order
to perform your Oral Interpretation presentation.
- This project can be used two-fold:
as a class assignment and/or for forensic competition.
Here are the guidelines for
THSSDL.
THSSDL Contest
Requirements
- Literature for
performance shall be from a published piece.
- Accepted forms of
literature in their entirety or structured excerpt: speeches,
song lyrics, poems, short fiction and nonfiction , and plays.
If more than one work is used then an appropriate thematic
transition must be implemented.
- The time limit is ten
(10) minutes. Penalties shall be imposed for exceeding the time
limit.
- The introduction to the
selection is considered part of the overall time
limit.
- Vocal, facial and
bodily expressions may be used as long as they do not call
attention to the interpreter as a performer, detract from the
meaning of the material, or constitute acting or
impersonation.
- Evaluation shall be
based on the student's ability to reveal his insight into the mood
and implications of the selection, his projection of the dramatic
qualities and his success in creating a uniformed scene or
story.
- Literature shall be
performed from memory for Humorous or Dramatic Interpretations
categories. In Individual Poetry and Prose categories as well as
Duo Interpretation a manuscript is required by each
contestant.
