Process Within your group of 3, decide which artist each of you will become... Francis Bacon Chuck Close Vincent van Gogh Research your own life and become familiar with your work. Write a brief autobiography. Compare your findings with the other artists and discuss the questions given in the Task. As a group, consolidate your findings in writing.

 

  

Art Production In addition to the written assignments, each artist will create a computer-generated portrait OR self-portrait in "his" style from a scanned or digital photograph. Requirements for your portrait: Style must be consistent with "your" (Bacon, Close, Gogh) other work. Use a variety of tools to manipulate and alter the photo. Change colors and textures to express a particular mood.

Conclusion You will be familiar with the works and styles or Bacon, Close, and Gogh. You will have an understanding of modern and contemporary portraiture. You will have an idea of the similarities and differences between styles. You will be able to identify the style and works of Bacon, Close, and Gogh.

  

 

Evaluation

Each artist will present his/her autobiographical information and portrait to the class, and participate in a critique. As a group, you will share what you've learned by discussing the similarities and differences with the class, and answering questions. Autobiography and group findings must be typed in a word processing program.
