2013-14 Student CHOICE TRANSFERS

All students in Shelby County may apply for all 2013-14 student choice transfer options in the new merged Shelby County Schools district. Choice transfer options include the former “Student Transfer” process in Shelby County Schools and “Open Enrollment” process in Memphis City Schools, as well as transfers for programs with specific eligibility criteria (i.e. Optional Schools and International Baccalaureate).

Policy for NEW Choice Transfers: The School Admissions policy (#6002) approved January 29, 2013 outlines priorities and criteria for new (not renewals) 2013-14 student choice transfers. Click here to view Board Policy #6002.
 
Transfer Renewals: Students who are on transfer to any Memphis City or Shelby County school during the 2012-13 school year will retain their transfer through the exit grade at their current school, as long as all criteria are met. (Transfer Renewal Letter)
 
All Transfers are based on available space in a school/program. Students are able to select two choice transfer options. All choice transfers are tuition-free for students in Shelby County. No district transportation is provided for choice transfers.

General Choice Transfers

  • 2013-14 online application window:
    February 15 – April 1, 2013

  • General choice transfers include all transfers requested as part of the former SCS “Student Transfer” and MCS “Open Enrollment” processes.

  • Any student in Shelby County can apply for a general choice transfer. Students are able to select two choice transfer options.

  • Transfers are based on available space in a school/program.

  • No transportation is provided by the district for student choice transfers.

  • General student choice transfers are tuition-free for students in Shelby County.

Optional Schools

  • Each Optional School program has specific eligibility criteria.

  • Optional School transfers are based on eligibility criteria and available space.

  • No transportation is provided by the district for Optional School transfers.

  • Optional School transfers are tuition-free for students in Shelby County.

International Baccalaureate

  • Any student in Shelby County can apply for the International Baccalaureate (IB) programs at Bolton HS, Germantown HS and/or Ridgeway HS.

  • Bolton and Germantown have school-based application processes. Accepted students must also submit a general choice transfer application February 15 - April 1, 2013.

    Ridgeway accepts IB applications at the district level through the Optional Schools process January 25 – August, 2013.

  • Each IB school has specific eligibility criteria. IB transfers are based on academic criteria and available space.

  • IB transfers are tuition-free for students in Shelby County.

  • No transportation is provided by the district for IB transfers.

  • Balmoral Ridgeway School, Oak Forest Elementary School and Ridgeway Middle School are 2013-14 IB Candidate Schools.
