Shelby County Schools now offers the HiSET exam, a high school equivalency test that is an alternative to the GED test.

Important facts about the HiSET exam:

  • Offered as computer-based test or paper-pencil test
  • Available in English or Spanish
  • Participants receive two free retakes when they buy all five subtests together (language arts-reading, language arts-writing, mathematics, science, and social studies). The test center fee, however, is not waived.

Tennessee Eligibility Requirements for HiSET

  • Tester must be at least 18 years of age without a high school diploma or high school equivalency certificate
