Flexible Spending

Shelby County Schools offers a flexible spending program administered by Corporate Planning Network (CPN).

  • Full-time permanent employees (working 30 hours or more per week) may enroll in coverage within 30 days of their hire date (30 days for a re-hire).
  • Enrollment must be completed online at
  • Coverage is effective the first day of the month after the completion of 30 days of employment.
  • You can only make changes to your flexible spending benefits during Open Enrollment each year or within 30 days of a qualifying life event (example: marriage, divorce, birth/adoption of a child, loss of other coverage, dependent loss of other coverage, etc.).

What is a FSA?
A flexible spending account (FSA) is a plan that provides the option of electing pre-tax payroll deductions for certain eligible health care and/or child/dependent care expenses. Because the expenses are paid with pre-tax dollars, the result is immediate tax savings. For more information and assistance with estimating your health care expense please review the IRS brochure

How much can I contribute? You may contribute up to a maximum of $2,550 per year based on IRS regulations for the current year. What expenses can be reimbursed under the FSA?
Qualified expenses that can be reimbursed under the Flexible Spending Accounts include costs such as:

  • Co-pays and doctor’s fees
  • Prescribed over-the-counter drugs and prescriptions
  • Dental and eye care expenses
  • Daycare expenses for dependents so you can work

How do I access my funds?
FSA participants will be provided a take care Visa Flex Benefits card. Qualified purchases using the take care Visa Flex Benefits card will be instantly deducted from your flex benefit account. If you are unable to use your Visa flex Benefits card you may access a claim form at
