Memphis, Tn. - The Academy of Education Arts & Sciences presented Shelby County Board of Education member David Pickler with a 2013 Bammy Award. Pickler, who is also president of the National School Boards Association (NSBA), was honored in the school board category during a gala in Washington D.C.

The Bammy Awards are a national recognition designed to highlight the extraordinary work being done across the entire education field, from teachers, principals, superintendents and various other education professionals to parents, advocates and elected officials. This is the second year in a row Pickler has received a Bammy. At the 2012 gala, he received the Educator’s Voice Award.

NSBA executive director Thomas Gentzel praised Pickler for his dedication to public education and school board governance.

“David Pickler is a strong advocate for local school governance to advance our public education system for all children,” said Gentzel.” Receiving the Bammy Award in the school board category is well deserving for such a committed, effective and respected school board leader.”

Pickler has been an elected school board member in Shelby County since 1998. He also serves on the Board of Directors for the Tennessee School Boards Association (TSBA) and has held multiple roles with the NSBA prior to his presidency.
