October is National Bullying Prevention month and thousands of Shelby County Schools students joined the fight against bullying to celebrate 2016 Unity Day.

SCS schools encouraged students, faculty and staff to wear orange on Wednesday to show their support to stop bullying.  Some schools even hosted special events to celebrate the day.

Vollentine Elementary held a special anti-bully assembly in the outside courtyard. Students performed about bullying and read poems they had written about the importance of ending bullying at their school. Students also released orange balloons containing messages about being kind to one another.

Students at Cherokee Elementary joined hands in a circle for Unity Day. They made a pledge to stop bullying at their school.

Unity Day was celebrated in schools across the nation. To learn more about how you can talk to your child about bullying in school, click here.
