January 17, 2017 11737 views

Optional Schools applications are now being accepted for the 2017-18 school year. With 46 unique and highly competitive tuition-free schools all across Shelby County, the SCS Optional Program offers incredible education choices for families, no matter what a student's interests may be. Every Optional school has a specialized learning focus, such as Enriched Academics, College Prep, International Studies, International Baccalaureate (IB), Creative & Performing Arts, STEAM, Automotive Technology and more.

Bar-coded applications were available January 23-26. Bar-coded applications must be submitted online, by mail or in person by 5 p.m. on January 27 in order to maintain the student's position in the application order.

Non-bar-coded applications are now available at all 46 Optional schools and in the Optional Schools office. Non-bar coded applications are processed after bar-coded applications in the order they are received and according to specific priority guidelines. Applications can be submitted through the start of the 2017-18 school year.

More information is available on the Optional Schools website:

  • FAQs about the application process, priority guidelines and entrance requirements for every school
  • Available spaces by school and grade
  • Digital copy of the 2017-18 Optional Schools Handbook, including school profiles, program highlights, entrance requirements and much more
