A third grade class at Idlewild Elementary is getting national recognition for putting their milk money to good use.

The 3-01 class, taught by Patrice Gillespie, is a winner in the national Made By Milk 2016 Carton Construction Contest with a Stax Records themed entry. The students built a guitar, saxophone, drum kit, organ, headphones and microphone all out of milk cartons. 500 milk cartons were used and it took students four weeks to complete.

Friday, the class was presented with an award and a $1,000 check during a special ceremony at the school. Idlewild also honored the parents who helped create the project.

Memphis-based Evergreen Packaging sponsors the Made By Milk Carton Construction Contest. A total of 14 winners were chosen from across the country.
