SCS Celebrates the Holiday Season with #WeAre901Thankful Campaign

Even in the midst of the COVID-19 crisis, the 901 community has shown that we still have so many reasons to be thankful. Throughout the pandemic, our School Board, Superintendent Ray, businesses, organizations, and stakeholders have banded together to feed children, extend instructional and social emotional support to families, and offer funding and services to assist Shelby County Schools in our goal to provide continuous education.

Getting in and staying in a mindset of gratitude is not always easy during the difficult moments, but SCS is shifting our focus to the things we can be grateful for. Using the hashtag #WeAre901Thankful, we are challenging the community to tell us in a 30 second video clip: what is meaningful to you and why are you thankful during this season? Check out some of the highlights below:

In the spirit of Thanksgiving, Shelby County Schools is also working to provide meals for food-insecure families during this holiday season.

The Nutrition Services department will be providing Thanksgiving food items to more than 3,000 families during the regular weekly Thursday bulk meal distribution service. Nutrition Services will be sharing more information with schools about the distribution on November 19. Holiday food supplies are limited, however, regular bulk meals will continue to be distributed that day.

Our Safety and Security team is partnering with Feed the Needy to prepare Thanksgiving boxes that will be delivered to thousands of families throughout Shelby County. As a part of this partnership, SCS Officers were asked to identify 100 SCS students who are in need. Special surprise deliveries will be made to the families of these identified students on Saturday, November 21.

The 88.5 FM team will be live at MemFeast 2020 on Thanksgiving Day at Mississippi Boulevard Christian Church from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. MemFeast provides free individual packaged Thanksgiving meals to those in need.
