REIMAGINING 901: Superintendent Updates Recommendation to Rebrand District as Memphis-Shelby County Schools

The Shelby County Board of Education overwhelmingly shared support for the official recommendation to rebrand our District as Memphis-Shelby County Schools during the January 2022 Academic Performance Committee meeting.

The name was first introduced during the unveiling of our Reimagining 901 plan. When legacy Memphis City Schools merged with Shelby County Schools, it naturally adopted the SCS name and logo because they represent the entirety of the county landscape. However, more than 80 percent of students live in the city limits of Memphis.

“Progress is impossible without change,” said Superintendent Dr. Joris M. Ray. “Reimagining 901 incorporates a name change that reflects our geographic location and the families we serve.”
