Updated 3/22/22:
Memphis-Shelby County Schools has sworn in the newest member of the Shelby County Board of Education. Charles Everett took the Oath of Office Tuesday to serve as a representative for district 6, following his appointment to the board by the County Commission.

“I want to ensure our children are lifted up, our teachers are well taken care of and that this school district is at the epicenter of greatness,” said Everett. “It is a humbling experience to be in this position and help bring MSCS to its rightful place as the top district in Tennessee and among the best in the U.S. Let’s get to work.”
“Mr. Everett is a true servant leader who puts children first and we couldn’t ask for a better Board member,” said Superintendent Dr. Joris M. Ray. “I love his vision, it aligns with other Board members and our goal to take MSCS to the top. We’re not going to allow a number to categorize our children. We’re going to continue to do what’s best for our children.”
“We welcome Mr. Everett to serve our District,” said Board Chair Michelle R. McKissack. “As School Board members, it is our duty to ensure the needs of our students and communities are met. It’s no easy task but together, with due diligence and perseverance, we’re able to provide service to our most precious assets - our children.”

There is a new face to serve Memphis-Shelby County Schools as the Shelby County Commission has appointed an interim member of the Shelby County Board of Education to represent District 6. Charles Everett, a legacy MCS (Memphis City Schools) graduate and product of the Westwood community, replaces longtime board member Shante Avant who resigned from the position in February 2022.

“Congratulations Charles Everett for your willingness to serve MSCS educators, students, and families,” said Superintendent Dr. Joris M. Ray. “TOGETHER, we will continue our commitment to reimagine schools, education, and communities in the 901.”
Everett has served the community for more than 25 years and continues to advocate for a better Memphis/Shelby County. Aside from his career as a Technical Principal with FedEx TechConnect Global Strategic Planning and Analysis, he has served as a volunteer with different organizations across the Mid-South.
