Dexter K-8 School Receives “America’s Healthiest Schools” Award

MSCS would like to showcase our very own Dexter K-8 School for winning a “tasty” honor just in time for National School Lunch week! They made the list of “America's Healthiest Schools” for a second time; they were also recognized in 2019. America’s Healthiest Schools is Alliance for a Healthier Generation's annual recognition program that celebrates schools for implementing policies and practices to promote health and well-being. Supported by Harmony SEL at National University, Kaiser Permanente, and Kohl’s, this recognition celebrates 406 schools across 26 states for their achievements in advancing the physical, mental, and social-emotional health of students, staff, and families.

Dexter K-8 School was recognized for implementing best practices in six (6) topic areas, based on criteria in the Thriving Schools Integrated Assessment: 

  1. Strengthening Social-Emotional Health & Learning, presented in collaboration with Harmony SEL at National University and Kaiser Permanente  
  2. Improving Nutrition and Food Access 
  3. Implementing Local School Wellness Policy  
  4. Bolstering Physical Education and Activity
  5. Enriching Health Education  
  6. Supporting School Health Services
