MSCS Welcomes Newly Appointed School Board Member - Former Educator Frank Johnson

Former LaRose Elementary teacher Frank Johnson has been sworn in to represent District 7 as the newest Shelby County Board of Education member. Johnson, a former educator and current community activist, was appointed by the Shelby County Commission at a special meeting on Monday, October 17.

Frank Johnson was officially sworn-in during an Oath of Office Ceremony on October 18.

Johnson’s experience as a former teacher to second, third, and fourth-grade students at LaRose Elementary ignited his passion for making schools community hubs where parents are included. He looks forward to building relationships with families, especially parents.

“Our schools are not just students — they represent families,” Johnson said. “When we talk about students, we have to talk about families, and we have to talk about communities as a whole.”

Johnson is a South Memphis community activist with the Center for Transforming Communities. His nonprofit is committed to the holistic transformation of neighborhoods and communities in and around Memphis.

Dedicated to the betterment of Memphis-Shelby County Schools, he promises to put teachers at the forefront of all his decisions and work to uplift their voices.
