Memphis, TN – On Wednesday, April 30, Memphis-Shelby County Schools (MSCS) proudly recognized 717 outstanding scholars who achieved a score of 25 or higher on the ACT, a significant academic milestone.

Historically, ACT scores have played a crucial role in securing scholarship funding opportunities and college admissions. While many institutions suspended standardized test requirements during the COVID pandemic, these have since been reinstated. This year’s recognition highlights the remarkable achievement of MSCS students who have excelled in this renewed academic environment.
Additionally, 21 students achieved the rare distinction of earning a perfect composite score of 36. To put this into perspective, less than one percent of test takers nationally reach this level of excellence.

One such scholar, Akhil from White Station High School, reflected on his accomplishment. “It’s a symbol of all of the hard work I put in. I love seeing all the people who got a 25+... everyone is such a hard worker.”
Yamileni, the Salutatorian of Medical District High School’s Class of 2025, was also honored at the ceremony. As the eldest Latina daughter in her family, she shared that there is immense pressure to set a positive example for her two younger siblings. Yamileni is graduating with an associate degree in Information Technology from Southwest Tennessee Community College – part of a pioneering dual-enrollment program. She is among the 43 Medical District seniors earning both a high school diploma and an associate degree, marking a historic achievement for the school’s inaugural graduating class.
Another celebrated student, Tyjuan from Cordova High School, described his 25+ ACT score as a personal goal. “It’s something I wanted to do for myself.” With the encouragement of his mother and involvement in various academic enrichment programs, Tyjuan is now inspiring his younger siblings to aim high. “I want to set a good example and show them this is something they can accomplish,” he said.

Despite challenges and obstacles, the scholars of MSCS continue to prove that greatness grows here. The district remains committed to nurturing a safe, supportive environment where every student is empowered to thrive and choose their path to success!
