At Memphis-Shelby County Schools (MSCS), we’re proud to celebrate the incredible work happening in our schools every day. From dedicated educators to high-achieving students, our schools continue to raise the bar, and Rozelle Elementary School is no exception.
We’re thrilled to share that Rozelle Elementary has been named 2025 Tennessee Arts Academy Arts Rich Elementary School of the Year, marking the school’s third award for artistic excellence this year. This recognition reflects the hard work of the entire school community, from the leadership team and teachers to support staff, students, and families.
Principal Dr. Taurus Hines credits the success to a shared commitment to excellence.
“This honor is a testament to our commitment to nurturing creativity and expression among our students,” said Dr. Hines. “(Interim Superintendent) Dr. (Roderick) Richmond’s unwavering support and advocacy for the arts have played a vital role in making this achievement possible.”
The Tennessee Arts Academy has created an opportunity for an individual school to be acknowledged for its commitment to an arts-rich education for all children, and eligible to be selected for the Tennessee Arts Academy Arts Rich School of Merit and Arts Rich School of the Year awards.
Beyond the award, the TAA Foundation Board plans to showcase the winning schools as diverse models of what an arts-rich curriculum may look like in communities across the state. The hope is that through continued media coverage and exposure throughout the year following the award, other schools will be motivated to create their own plans to become an arts rich school.
“From ensuring access to enriching programs to championing opportunities that allow our students to shine, the district’s dedication to the arts inspires us all,” Dr. Hines added.
Congratulations to the Rozelle Elementary community on this outstanding accomplishment! Your work continues to motivate and uplift our district – and shows what’s possible when students are empowered to succeed.
