We've Got Options: MSCS Kicks off School Selection Season with Optional Schools Fair

Hundreds of families were able to get up close and personal with 45 school programs within Memphis-Shelby County Schools during the District’s Optional Schools Fair.

The fair, hosted at the University of Memphis, displayed academic, technical, and arts opportunities available to students across Memphis and Shelby County.

Each MSCS optional school has a specialized learning focus, such as Enriched Academics, College Prep, International Studies, International Baccalaureate (IB), Creative & Performing Arts, Health Science, Automotive Technology, and more.

Student report cards and scores on standardized tests are usually used as entrance requirements. Conduct and attendance are also considered.

MSCS has the most choices for students and families in Memphis, whether it’s a school with a specialized learning focus, an innovative setting to meet unique learning needs or a traditional K-12 setting in a student’s neighborhood with a broad set of courses and extracurricular offerings.

School leaders, along with educators and student ambassadors, were on hand to highlight their schools and answer any questions. This event is one of several that will take place during School Selection Season.

Families will have another opportunity to check out the District’s optional school programs as part of the MSCS School Choice Showcase, scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 3, at the Memphis Sports and Events Center

More than 200 schools and programs will be on display to help parents find the perfect fit for their child’s education. Student entrepreneurs will also have a display area to showcase their businesses.
