Real or Fake - You Decide

It is important to realize that not everything on the internet is real and accurate.  Telling fact from fiction can be difficult in today's digital world.

So how can you tell the difference?

Try looking at the following:

  • What is the URL ending

    • .com (commercial)

    • .org (organization)

    • .net (network)

    • .edu (education)

    • .gov (government

  • Is there an author

  • Is the date of the site current

  • Are there misspellings or grammar errors

  • What is the topic or subject matter

  • How in depth is the material covered

  • Do the facts make sense

  • Does the author provide resources

  • Do others support the information

Student Task: Visit the sites below and see if you can figure out which ones are real and which ones are fake.

Site 2 - Iowa State University's Tasty Insect Recipes
