We Rise Above The Rest

Downtown Elementary is an Enriched Academics optional school. The school takes advantage of its unique urban location by using Downtown Memphis as a "living laboratory" in which students learn from the people, places, and other resources available within a short distance from the school. Students take frequent field trips to historical, educational, and cultural sites in the downtown area. Guest speakers from nearby businesses and organizations bring their expertise into classrooms to share with Downtown Elementary students.

Academics and Enrichment

The curriculum of Downtown Elementary is designed to provide a wide array of educational opportunities, enhancing both the academic and social development of students.

Support classes available for Downtown students include music, computer technology, physical education, art, and library studies. CLUE (Creative Learning in a Unique Environment) is offered for students who are intellectually gifted.

A broad range of in-school enrichment activities for students are offered including Student Council, spelling bee, student newspaper, and special projects. All intermediate students participate in career and student interest based clubs sponsored by teachers or partnered with local businesses (such as University of Memphis Law School, MLGW, YMCA, etc.) which include special interests such as law, engineering, energy conservation, soccer, basketball, art, books, dance, exercise, beauty, economics, and many more.

Tuition-based after-school activities include opportunities such as ballet, Spanish, Taekwondo, soccer, and "Mad Science." For current after school enrichment classes, please contact the school. Downtown Elementary also has before-and-after-school child care with meaningful enrichment activities.
