  Hamilton Middle School has been named as one of

Tennessee's reward schools for the 2014-2015 school year.

The Tennessee Department of Education (TDOE) released its annual Reward Schools list today. Shelby County Schools (SCS) has 39 schools on the Reward list, which is composed of the top 5 percent of schools in the state for academic achievement and the top 5 percent for student growth.


HMS will implement several new programs this year, these include:

  • Blended Learning- Blended learning involves leveraging the Internet to afford each student a more personalized learning experience, meaning increased student control over the time, place, path, and/or pace of his or her learning.
  • AVID- Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) is a college-readiness system designed to increase the number of students who enroll in and complete a degree at four-year colleges, focusing on students in the academic middle. The formula is to raise expectations of students.

  • I-Ready- this powerful online program combines an adaptive assessment with instant reporting, and engaging differentiated instruction customized for each student's unique needs.
