Northwest Prep's

Published Young Authors

9 scholars were chosen out of 35 from Northwest Prep to be published in the Young Writers' The Poetry Games Contest. This is the contest you forwarded me in January.  They each received letters from to gain permission for publication.  Here are the names:

  • Butler, Devin- "Love is Love"
  • Davis, Kenyatta- "If Only I had the Strength"
  • Davis, Jamarius- "Life"
  • Hull, Leland- "Love is Not Easy"
  • Hunter, Mason- "Life After Death"
  • Leatherwood, Jazmine- "Glass Cup"
  • Odell, Jaylen- "The Team"
  • Saulter, Jakayla- "My Love is for You"
  • Selmon, Kierra- "Obstacles"
  • Sharp, Carlos - "Baby Mothers"

They were surprised and excited to be "published" authors. It is a great honor.

Tennessee Association of Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance (TAHPERD)

Physical Education teacher, Y. Dillard, was identified for recognition as an outstanding teacher!

She will be recognized on TAHPERD's website www.tahperd.us this month (May).

Let’s give a big NORTHWEST PREP round of applauds for our very own Mrs. Dillard!

Congratulations, Shelby County National Winners!

Last week was entitled “America’s Healthiest Schools Week” and Shelby schools were covered in three local stories.  The links are below.

To recap, we had three nationally recognized schools in Shelby (six overall in Tennessee) and they are:

Bronze

Gordon K-8 Achievement Academy

Dyersburg Intermediate

Hardin County Middle

Hardin County High

Silver

Hickory Ridge Middle

Gold

Northwest Prep Academy

Thank you to all the school champions, school administrative leaders, and district Coordinated School Health and PE leaders for making this happen with their tremendous support and dedication.
