Learning a foreign language is not only essential for a well-rounded education, but most colleges now require at least two years of the same high school foreign language.

FRENCH I (Regular) FL131 Grades 9, 10, 11, 12
French I (Regular) is an introduction to the basic skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing in French. A cultural overview of life in France is also part of the course content. It is recommended that students earn at least an 86 average in two previous semesters of English.
PREREQUISITES - None Credit 1

FRENCH I (Honors) FL138 Grades 9, 10, 11, 12
French I (Honors) is designed for students with an above average aptitude in language. Extra emphasis is placed on speaking the language, on vocabulary acquisition, on composition and on learning about French customs and culture. At least a 94 English average and a 90 overall grade point average are recommended. French I Honors is recommended for students who wish to pursue more than 2 years of French.
PREREQUISITES - Teacher recommendation required. Credit 1

FRENCH II (Regular) FL231 Grades 10, 11, 12
French II (Regular) is a continuation of French I and is designed for students who wish to satisfy the two year language requirement for graduation or the University path and college entrance. It is recommended that students have at least an 84 average in French I.
PREREQUISITES - FRENCH I Credit 1

FRENCH II (Honors) FL238 Grades 10, 11, 12
French II (Honors) is designed for students with above average aptitude in language acquisition. The course is a continuation of French I with special emphasis on speaking the language. Use of correct French grammar and development of writing skills are important components of this course. It is strongly recommended that students have a least a 94 average in French I. French II Honors is recommended for students who wish to pursue more than 2 years of French.
PREREQUISITES - FRENCH I; Teacher recommendation required. Credit 1

FRENCH III (Honors) FL338 Grades 11, 12
French III is designed for students who want to increase their language proficiency and build their fluency in the French language. Knowledge and mastery of grammar are stressed as well as the naturalness of the spoken French. Outside readings are also included in the program. It is strongly recommended that students have at least a 90 average in French II (Honors) or a 94 average in French II (Regular).
PREREQUISITES - French III; Teacher recommendation required. Credit 1

AP FRENCH FL439 Grade 12
Advanced Placement French follows the course description established by The College Board for French language. The course is intended for students who have chosen to develop proficiency in French language. Student must have a good working knowledge of French grammar and considerable competency in listening, speaking, reading, and writing. An "A" average in all previous French courses is strongly recommended. The student will be required to take the AP French exam in May. The cost is $75 at the beginning of the year.
PREREQUISITES - French III; Teacher recommendation required. Credit 1

GERMAN I FL141 Grades 9, 10, 11, 12
German I is an introduction to the basic skills of speaking, reading and writing German. Emphasis is put on functional conversation and accuracy in writing. Basic vocabulary and grammar are studied. A cultural overview of German-speaking countries is also part of the course content. It is recommended that students have at least a "B" average in English.
PREREQUISITES - None Credit 1

German I (HONORS) FL148 Grades 9, 10, 11, 12
German I (Honors) is designed for linguistically talented students who have maintained at least a 94 average in eighth grade language arts. Extra emphasis is placed on speaking the language and studying German customs and culture.

GERMAN II FL241 Grades 10, 11, 12
German II is a continuation of German I. Emphasis is put on good grammar and on reading and speaking skills. The history of Germany is also studied. Students with at least a "B" average in German I are recommended for this course.

GERMAN II (HONORS) FL248 Grades 10, 11, 12
German II (Honors) is designed for linguistically talented students who maintained at least a 90 average in German I (Honors) or a 94 average in German I (regular). The course is a continuation of German I (Honors) with a strong emphasis placed on all communication skills.
PREREQUISITES - German I; Teacher recommendation required. Credit 1

GERMAN III (HONORS) FL348 Grades 11, 12
German III is designed for students with a strong interest in speaking, reading and writing German. The emphasis of this course is on reading literature, discussing it in German, as well as on improving the spoken language and conversational skills. It is recommended that students have an 86 average in German II.
PREREQUISITES - German II; Teacher recommendation required. Credit 1

ADVANCED PLACEMENT GERMAN FL449 Grade 12
Advanced Placement German is designed for students who have chosen to develop proficiency in German language. Course content will reflect intellectual interests in the arts, current events, literature, sports, etc. In addition to standard textbooks and anthologies, materials will include recordings, films, newspapers, magazines, and contemporary literature. Students must have a good working knowledge of German grammar and competency in listening, speaking, reading, and writing. A "B" average in all previous German courses is recommended. Students will be required to take the AP German exam in May. The cost will be $75 at the beginning of the year.

LATIN I FL111 Grades 9, 10, 11,12
Latin I emphasizes the language, history and culture of the Ancient Romans. Latin I stresses grammar, vocabulary, mythology and culture. The study of Latin benefits the student in areas of English vocabulary and grammar. An "A" in English is highly recommended.
PREREQUISITES - English Teacher recommendation required. Credit 1

LATIN I (HONORS) FL118 Grades 9
Latin I (Honors) is designed for linguistically talented students who have maintained at least a 94 average in eighth grade language arts. Students who take Latin (Honors) must be enrolled in English I (Honors) concurrently.
PREREQUISITES - Teacher recommendation required. Credit 1

LATIN II FL211 Grades 10, 11, 12
Latin II also stresses the language, history mythology and culture of the Ancient Romans with emphasis on the translation of the Argonauts and Caeser's Commentaries on the Gallic Wars. An average of at least a "B" in Latin I is recommended for this course.
PREREQUISITES-Latin I Credit 1

LATIN II (HONORS) FL218 Grades 10, 11, 12
Latin II (Honors) is a continuation of Latin I (Honors). Students who enroll in this course must have at least a 90 average in Latin I (Honors) or a 94 average in Latin I (Regular).
PREREQUISITES - Latin I; Teacher recommendation required. Credit 1

LATIN III HONORS FL318 Grade 11, 12
This extensive course is designed to reinforce basic Latin grammar and to expose students to authentic Latin literature (poetry and prose). Analytical writing is an integral part of the course. A "90" average in Latin II Honors is recommended.
PREREQUISITES - Latin II Honors; Teacher recommendation required. Credit 1

AP LATIN CATULLUS/OVID FL319 Grade 12
This rigorous course is restricted to fourth-year Latin students. It emphasizes grammar, translation, reading comprehension, and analytical writing. Students will read selections from the poets Ovid and Catullus. A final qualifying examination is required. The Advance Placement course fee of $75 must be paid at the beginning of the year. An "A" average in Latin III is recommended.

SPANISH I (REGULAR) FL151 Grades 9, 10, 11, 12
Spanish I focuses on building a foundation for future proficiency in the Spanish language. Reading, writing, listening, and speaking the language are emphasized. The course content includes grammar, vocabulary and a cultural overview of the Spanish-speaking countries. It is recommended that students earn at least an 86 average in the previous two semesters of English.
PREREQUISITES - None Credit 1

SPANISH I (HONORS) FL158 Grades 9, 10, 11, 12
Spanish I Honors is designed for linguistically talented students with at least a 94 average in English from the previous two semesters an an overall 90 GPA. The course content contains advanced grammar material, additional vocabulary as well as a concentrated emphasis on speaking and writing. The cultural material on the Spanish-speaking countries is covered in this class. Spanish I Honors is recommended for students who wish to pursue more than 2 years of Spanish.
PREREQUISITES-Teacher recommendation required. Credit 1

SPANISH II (REGULAR) FL251 Grades 10, 11, 12
Spanish II is a continuation of Spanish I with additional emphasis on communication skills and higher level of grammar. An average of at least an 84 in Spanish I is recommended for this course. A cultural overview of Spanish speaking regions is included.
PREREQUISITES - Spanish I; Teacher recommendation required. Credit 1

SPANISH II (HONORS) FL258 Grades 10, 11, 12
Spanish II Honors is designed for linguistically talented students. The course is a continuation of Spanish I with more emphasis placed on all communication skills. Spanish II (Honors) consists of additional requirements in the areas of advanced grammar, vocabulary, and culture. It is strongly recommended that student have a 94 English average and an overall 90 grade point average. Spanish II Honors is recommended for students who wish to pursue more than 2 years of Spanish.
PREREQUISITES - Spanish I; Teacher recommendation required. Credit 1

SPANISH III (HONORS) FL358 Grades 11, 12
Spanish III Honors includes an advanced study of grammatical structure and an introduction to literature. Communication skills and vocabulary growth are emphasized. Students in this course should have at least a 94 in a regular Spanish II class and a 90 in an Honors Spanish II class.
PREREQUISITES - Spanish II; Teacher recommendation required. Credit 1

SPANISH IV (HONORS) FL458 Grade 12
Spanish IV Honors includes a review of grammatical structures and emphasizes vocabulary growth and further development of communication skills. The course of study will include a survey of Spanish and Hispanic history, art and literature. An 86 average is recommended in Spanish III.
PREREQUISITES - Spanish III; Teacher recommendation required. Credit 1
