WORLD GEOGRAPHY SS131 Grades
9-12
World Geography is an integrative discipline that brings
together the physical and human dimensions of the world in
the study of people, places, and environments. Approached as
a survey course, its subject matter is the Earth's surface
and the processes that shape it, the relationships between
people and environments, and the connections between people
and places. Extensive map work is required as each region of
the globe is examined.

WORLD GEOGRAPHY HONORS SS138
Grades 9-12
World Geography Honors is an in depth extension of the
materials examined in standard World Geography classes. It
is designed to be a world awareness course. The impact of
geography on each country's history, economics, culture,
government, and contemporary affairs is studied. This course
serves the needs of students with an above average aptitude
in social studies. Emphasis will be placed on critical
analysis and research. Projects and papers will be required.
A strong commitment to the subject area is essential.

This course surveys the development of mankind and his
political, economic, social and cultural institutions from
prehistoric times to the present. It covers the major
civilizations on every continent except Antarctica. The
first semester extends to approximately 1500 A.D. and the
second from 1500 A.D. to the present.

World History Honors is a chronological approach to
tracing the history and progress of man. Political,
economic, cultural and social institutions will be explored.
Emphasis will be placed on critical analysis, research and
writing. Students will be required to read supplementary
materials and purchase of some books will be required. The
first semester is the study of Ancient History through 1750.
The second semester is Modern History, 1750 to present.
World History is offered as two separate, one semester,
one-half credit courses. To receive a full credit in World
History a student must enroll in both of these classes.
PREREQUISITES-Teacher recommendation required. Credit 1
"A" in Honors English 9.
U.S. HISTORY SS351 Grade

U.S. History is a survey course which begins with an
in-depth study of the Constitution and continues through
each major period, with special emphasis placed on the
period from 1865 to the present. Students should receive a
general knowledge and appreciation for the political, social
and economic developments of the United States. This one
credit course is required for a high school diploma. All
eleventh-grade students must register for the course.
PREREQUISITES-Enrolled in English III (American Literature)

AP U.S. HISTORY SS359 Grade

Advanced Placement U.S. History provides the student
with the analytical skills and factual knowledge necessary
to deal critically with the problems and materials in
American History. This course emphasizes the skills
necessary to arrive at conclusions on the basis of an
informed judgment and to present reasons and evidence
clearly and persuasively in essay format. A strong
commitment to the subject area is essential. Supplementary
materials may also be required for students to purchase in
this course. A final qualilfying examination is required and
the fee of $75 must be paid by all students enrolled in this
course at the beginning of the year. Receiving a certain
score on the exam may earn the student college credit. A
reading list is required.

BIBLE HISTORY I SS373 Grades

This course traces the origin and development of the
Old Testament. Students study the Biblical account of
early civilization, formation of the nation of Israel,
periods of the judges and kings, and literature of the
poetry and wisdom books. Some overview of the major and
minor prophets will be included.
Note: Enrollment in this class will depend on student
interest, teacher availability and funding. Students must
make another elective selection in case this class is not
offered.

BIBLE HISTORY II SS374 Grades

This course traces the origin and development of the
New Testament. Students study the life and teachings
of Jesus, first century Judaism, and the development of the
early Christian Church.
Note: Enrollment in this class will depend on student
interest, teacher availability and funding. Students must
make another elective selection in case this class is not
offered.

PSYCHOLOGY SS442 Grades 11,

Psychology is an introduction to general psychology,
emphasizing learning and personality theory, normal and
abnormal behavior, problem solving and conflict analysis.
The student develops an awareness not only of the nature of
human psychology, but also of techniques for managing his
own behavior.

Sociology is a study of man in social groups, and how
group interaction influences human behavior.

Economics includes the fundamental principles of the
American free enterprise system and the factors that
influence its function. This course is designed so that
students achieve a better understanding as to how basic
economic concepts effect decisions made by consumers,
producers, and government.

AMERICAN GOVERNMENT SS452
Grade 12
American government is a semester course which surveys
the political process in the United States. It includes an
examination of the principles of U.S. Constitutional
government and political behavior. Students examine the role
of government in current issues. Emphasis is placed on the
three branches of our federal government.
PREREQUISITE - U. S. History Credit 1/2
AP U.S. GOVERNMENT SS459 Grade
12
Advanced Placement U. S. Government is intended for
qualified students who want to complete studies in high
school equivalent to one semester of college study. The
course examines the foundations of American government,
political beliefs, political parties, the organization and
powers of the three branches of U.S. federal government, and
American civil rights and civil liberties. In addition to
the text, supplementary reading will be assigned. A final
College Board exam is required which will cost $73 that will
be paid at the beginning of the course. Receiving a passing
score on the exam may gain the student college credit.

CONTEMPORARY ISSUES SS462
Grade 12
Contemporary Issues examines current local, national,
and international issues and events. Methods and materials
involve oral reports, written summaries, group projects,
guest speakers, films, newspapers, television, magazines and
class discussions. It is recommended that the students have
an overall "B" average.
