Lott Leadership Institute for High School Students

Program for rising high school seniors who will earn six hours of college credit while participating in discussion groups, panels, and debates on issues confronting the leaders of the 21st century. Students will travel to Washington, DC, to participate in discussion with state and national leaders. Cost is $500 plus books, weekend meals, snacks and spending money. Some full scholarships available. Up to four students may be nominated from each high school. Students must have at least a 3.2GPA and 15 academic units. Students will be selected on the basis of demonstrated leadership and involvement in the local school and community. Twenty students will be chosen.

Summer College for High School Students

The summer college includes the PACE program, the Pre-Engineering Program, the Pre-Health Progressions Program, the Art Institute, the Music Institute, the Journalism Institute, the Theatre Arts Institute, the Spanish Immersion Institute, the English Renaissance Revisited Institute and the Junior Varsity for Rising High School Juniors.

University of Tennessee Knoxville

Participants will have an opportunity to experience an interdisciplinary curriculum providing an introduction to the excitement and methodology of scientific research while living on the UT campus. Participants include rising 10th, 11th, and 12th grade students who have demonstrated interest and aptitude in math and science and who want to go to college. Participants are students whose parents do not have a four-year college degree and students whose taxable family income meets Title IV Federal eligibility guidelines. Selection is based on information obtained from a completed application, teacher recommendations, high school transcript, and a personal essay.

Washington and Lee

Summer Scholars consists of two components: Academic - Students select one of eight curricula for the four-week period. Each curriculum consists of three courses and is limited to 20 students. Each course has a one-hour class period each day, Monday through Friday, and requires additional preparation and assignments outside of class.

Co-curricular - The Summer Scholars program provides daily intramural activities and offers sessions on college admissions procedures, financial aid, and lectures about other areas of interest to the college-bound student. Cost is $2,000 plus textbooks and personal spending money. Limited scholarships are available. Certificates will be awarded; no secondary or college credit for classes taken.
