The MSCS “Full STEAM Ahead!” Gifted & Talented Summer Camp is designed to provide enrichment and academic acceleration to students who are already working above grade level. Through focused hands-on learning grounded in science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics, students will explore different facets of their world and/or history and build new skills to enhance the foundational learning that takes place during the regular school year. In addition to experiential learning on site, students will be transported to the Discovery Park of America in Union City for a full day of programming that aligns with the camp’s thematic study.

The Kinder Camp is a 4-week summer learning experience for rising Kindergarten students who did not attend a Memphis-Shelby County Schools PreK program or who attended a MSCS PreK program and need additional academic support. The purpose of the program is to engage incoming kindergarten children with the basic early literacy skills needed to help ensure readiness for the rigor and demands of the Kindergarten standards and curriculum. Children’s reading development is largely dependent upon their understanding of the alphabetic principle; therefore, Kinder Campers will engage in instruction and activities centered on the idea that letters and letter patterns represent the sounds of spoken language.

During the Summer Youth Program each student will be held to the highest standards of attendance and will be assigned to departments within County Government, Corporate Sponsors and/or Non-Profit Organizations with specific work needs. The students will be assigned a mentor and will receive developmental workshop training during the program. To be eligible the students must be at least 16 years old, live in Shelby County, and currently enrolled in school.

The students will be assigned a mentor and will receive developmental workshop training during the program. To be eligible the students must be at least 16 years old, live in Shelby County, and currently enrolled in school.

The purpose of the program is to engage incoming kindergarten children with the basic early literacy skills needed to help ensure readiness for the rigor and demands of the Kindergarten standards and curriculum. Children’s reading development is largely dependent upon their understanding of the alphabetic principle; therefore, Kinder Campers will engage in instruction and activities centered on the idea that letters and letter patterns represent the sounds of spoken language.

The MSCS “Full STEAM Ahead!” Summer Camp for Gifted & Talented Students is designed to provide enrichment and academic acceleration to students who are already working above grade level. The Drivers Education Program is intended for drivers ages 16 to 18. Participants are required to complete 10 days of educational training comprised of curriculum, decision making, traffic safety, driving simulators, group activities, indoor/outdoor events, and more. Participants will receive the opportunity to complete the permit or licensure process. Students will have an opportunity to engage in different aspects of STEM and leadership through a weeklong summer development program. Students from MSSA and East T - STEM will develop and exhibit problem solving and leadership strategies. Students from 6-12 grade will engage in activities and tasks that will build relationships, leadership skills, and self-confidence. STEM programing will include coding, robotics, structure engineering, drone piloting, and understanding the engineering and design process.

Positive Action is a skills-based group activity sponsored by Memphis-Shelby County Schools Mental Health Center. It is a Free Summer Program for Students interested in learning how to make positive choices associated with school and home environments. The Positive Action Program is designed to assist students in middle and high schools; sessions are designed to increase positive thinking and behavior, reduce negative unhealthy behavior, and improve social and emotional learning. It also provides tips for students who want to understand and manage self- and social-awareness that can lead to better interactions with other at home and school.
Program Locations: Offered to the following 2022 Summer School Site locations – A. Maceo Walker MS, Hickory Ridge MS, Kate Bond MS, Kingsbury MS, Sherwood MS, Snowden MS, Central HS, Cordova HS, Craigmont HS, Germantown HS, Ridgeway HS, and Hamilton HS.
