Fine Arts

The Fine Arts team in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction is committed to providing high quality support to teachers and school leaders, students, and parents throughout the district and surrounding community. The vision of the Fine Arts team is based on the belief that all students thrive in arts rich schools. We strive to provide equitable access to high quality arts education for all SCS students, including K-12 sequential standards-based curricula in visual arts, vocal and instrumental music, dance, theatre, and media arts.

Effective Fine Arts instruction requires access to an equitable delivery of arts education that

includes dance, media arts, music, theatre, and visual arts taught by certified professional Fine Arts educators in partnership with community arts providers. Learning opportunities in the Fine Arts support students' academic, social, and emotional well-being. Culturally responsive and rigorous instruction in the Fine Arts are possible whether students are in the classroom or engaging in learning from home. Instructional strategies have been adapted to meet the current instructional space of virtual learning.
