Multi-Hazard Emergency Management Planning Overview

Introduction

The District has developed a comprehensive Multi-Hazard Management Emergency Program comprised of four major components—mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery. Each site is required to establish a Multi-Hazard Planning Committee to provide ongoing oversight, coordination and evaluation of the Multi-Hazard Emergency Management Program at their site.

A standardized template has been developed for all District sites (schools and non school sites) to ensure coordinated preparedness and emergency procedures. The submitted plan should also address the uniqueness and special needs of each site, paying close attention to those students and staff members who have special needs. This plan must be updated yearly and submitted to the Chief Office of Student Support.

Each site is responsible for identifying hazards in and around their building(s) and developing a mitigation plan to alleviate these hazards. These plans also, help to deal with secondary hazards that could be created by chemical spills resulting from natural disasters such as serve weather, earthquake or fire. With these measures in place each site will have fewer risks in an emergency.

 
Purpose

The purpose of this plan is to provide emergency preparedness and response instructions, information, and protocols to protect the safety and well being of students, staff, and visitors at the time of an emergency.

Objectives

1. Protect the safety and welfare of students and staff.
2. Provide for a safe and coordinated response to emergency situations.
3. Protect the District’s facilities and property.
4. Enable the District to restore normal conditions with minimal confusion in the shortest time possible.
5. Provide for interface and coordination between sites and he District Incident Command System (ICS) team.
6. Provide for the orderly conversion of pre-designated sites to Red Cross/EMA shelters when necessary.
