Aspiring Teachers Application

As building leaders, it is imperative that you consistently implement strategies to effectively induct, support, retain, and grow your employees (C3: TN TEAM Administrator Rubric).

To support your school-based induction and succession plan, please note this opportunity to pipeline staff to the teaching profession. Relay Graduate School of Education, in partnership with SCS’s Aspiring Teachers Program,  is continuing its partnership with the Relay Memphis Teaching Residency to provide aspiring and novice teachers with a clear pathway into a career as a highly effective teacher in Memphis.

This program is open to non-licensed educators who are current employees of Shelby County Schools, including educational, Pre-K, and SPED assistants and highly specialized education assistants. To be eligible, candidates must already hold a bachelor’s degree and must be willing and able to meet the requirements of the Residency program. If you would like to submit a recommendation for an aspiring teacher, please fill out this form.

If you have multiple educators at your building that you would like to recommend, please fill out one form for each candidate.

Teacher Tenure Elgibility

To obtain tenure, a teacher must meet the eligibility requirements outlined under Tennessee law.

To meet LOE requirements for tenure, a teacher must have acquired an LOE score of 4 or 5 during the most recent two (2) years of available evaluation scores achieved during the probationary period.

  • Nullification Implications as it relates to Tenure (2020-21).  In the event a teacher nullifies their score for 2020-21, he/she should make sure there are two consecutive years (The school year 2017-18 and 2018-19) of LOEs scores available to obtain tenure.
    • Teachers in Year 4 of the Probationary Period.  Teachers in year 4 or their probationary period who elect to nullify 2020-2021 scores, will not be eligible for tenure.  The nullification selection will remove the availability of having two years’ LOE scores (School years 2020-21 and 2021-22).
  • Nullified LOE 2020-21 in error.  If a teacher nullifies their score for 2020-21 in error, he/she will need to place a FootPrints ticket requesting EPS to remove the nullification. The link can be found here along with the Step Guide for completion.

Please reference the FAQ provided by the Tennessee Department of Education. It details both eligibility requirements (question 1) and provides guidance related to the option to nullify a teacher’s LOE for the 2020-2021 academic year and the potential impact of nullification upon tenure eligibility. (pages 2-4).
